I have been passionate about anything fabric, ever since I was seven years old. My Barbie “Fashion Shop” was the starting point. I turned it into other places; her mansion, a paper goods store, whatever I could dream up. And of course with each adventure, I dressed Barbie and friends and decorated her new digs to match. I went to college with the intent of being a fashion designer and began teaching sewing and quilting classes, and selling my own creations. Owning a full service fabric store for sixteen years was a natural transition and closing the store to be a full time wife and mother was well timed. The tug of creating and design was, however, too great: I began work as part of a design team for Sunset magazine in the book division. Our team of six talented women created three great books on re-inventing spaces in your home. The experiences of working on home projects from start to finish, on budget, and on time, has been invaluable. Shortly after the books were completed I met Lisa. I had up until the Sunset stint, worked on my own, but Lisa and I found that we complement each other with our backgrounds and talents, a great benefit to our clients. Our clients get years of experience (each with our own area of expertise), that is a cost savings and a formidable combination of imagination and creativity. We LOVE what we do!

My design affliction was diagnosed about 10 years ago when we bought our 1960's ranch style home. It started with a desire (o.k. maybe an obsession) to transform my "good bones" , but very outdated surroundings. My new home was a blank canvas just waiting to be re-created! We jumped right in tackling everything from "cottage cheese" on the ceiling to installing new flooring and everything in between oh, and of course adding lots of crown molding (you can never have too much crown). I have taken many paint technique classes (better known as faux) at a local college. Although I don't do much "fauxing" anymore the experience taught me how to make colors work together and how to coordinate color with various design elements throughout a home. I was fortunate to be chosen as part of a design team to work on a Jr. League Showcase House, experiencing first hand the planning that goes into all aspects of designing a beautiful home. These experiences have taught me that transforming something "Shabby " to something "Chic" could effectively be done using lots of creativity, but little money. Ten years and three children later, the design shows on HGTV (you know the ones) have been my soap operas of choice and books on interior design are as close to a novel as it gets for me. Having tons of "hands on" has been my designer finals!
